Post office getting ready for digital commerce
The extensive network of post offices across the country is being developed as a reliable institution for the use of private entrepreneurs engaged in digital commerce. As a result, it will be possible to transport and distribute perishable goods including vegetables in a short period of time across the country. To that end, initiatives are being taken to set up frozen chambers in postal vehicles and sorting centers in 64 districts of the country. This will open a new horizon in the development of digital commerce in the country.
This was stated by Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar while addressing as the chief guest at the inaugural function of Master Trainer Training among Entrepreneurs of the Postal Department aimed at creating National E-Commerce Agents across the country on Saturday evening.
The minister also remarked that the postal department would emerge with the addition of digital commerce.
Director-General of Postal Department Md. Siraj Uddin and a2i official Rezwanul Haque Jami, among others, spoke on the occasion. Officials of the Postal Department expressed their views on the expansion of digital commerce at the event.
Noting the end of the letter era, the country's largest post office network is being transformed into a different dimension as the oldest institution, the minister said, adding that the institution, as an old institution, has many flaws and setbacks. All the activities of the Postal Department are being digitized to overcome the existing backwardness. Digitization has been implemented in some cases, but it will not be easy to reap the full benefits without digitization as a whole.
Noting that digital commerce is becoming very popular day by day, the minister said that digital commerce will come to the city just as rural products will go to the village. If we can train entrepreneurs, we can build the vast potential of digital commerce.
In this case, the Minister stressed on the need to create digital capabilities among the entrepreneurs of digital post offices.
Commenting that the pressure of digital commerce will increase a lot in the coming days, he said, "We are creating master trainers through training." That's why businesses need to do as much digital skills as they need.
He described a2i's initiative in expanding digital commerce as a remarkable initiative.
Describing the entrepreneurs as great soldiers of Digital Bangladesh, the Minister said that the master trainers would impart knowledge on digital commerce themselves and they would disseminate the knowledge gained by training others which would contribute to the expansion of digital commerce.
The minister said the training would be brought to eight and a half thousand entrepreneurs of the postal department across the country in phases.
Later, the Minister inaugurated the Master Trainer Training.
